Currently, most radar use-cases are addressed by a single Monolithic Microwave Integrated Circuit (MMIC) system, e.g., being employed as a corner radar for NCAP or front radar for adaptive cruise control. Subsequently, a relatively smaller market is addressed by a high-resolution radar for use-cases defined in the scope of applications up to level 2+ automated driving systems from OEMs. However, moving from ADAS toward full autonomy, the demand for higher resolution radar is expected to substantially increase. This is because a more advanced and reliable radar sensor is required to complement the vision perception system.
The industry is examining and deploying various solutions to address the increased demand and, at the same time, to provide technological advancement necessary for high-resolution radar applications. This presentation explores various approaches employed to achieve this goal while discussing system-relevant tradeoffs.
