Audience Level: All

As photonics transition from research in universities and labs to commercial production, a critical enabler is the emergence of Process Design Kits (PDKs) to provide access to foundry technology through the use of photonics-focused tools such as simulation, schematic capture, layout and design rules checkers. The first commercial photonic PDKs emerged in 2018. Pioneers who delivered these PDKs will discuss challenges in their development, their application in photonic design, and project how they will develop in the future. They will also discuss how photonic tools are linked to the emerging commercial foundries.
