For nearly two decades, PCI Express® (PCIe®) technology has served as the de facto I/O interconnect of choice across the computing industry. Now on its sixth generation, PCIe technology provides a high bandwidth, low latency interconnect for diverse, data-intensive markets including Automotive.
OEMs are already working on the next-generation E/E architecture which is called zonal architecture. A zonal architecture includes multi-functional zonal controllers which are configurable devices that can be used for various functions like camera or radar processing. Sensors are connected via high-speed interfaces with zonal controllers that transfer the massive data to a (redundant) central compute unit. The proximity of the zonal controllers to the sensors or actuators helps to reduce the cable length which will further improve the bandwidth of the in-vehicle network.
Intelligent Gateways route the data between the central ECU, Zone controllers and sensors to enable high-resolution sensor data processing. In line with this trend, PCI Express technology adoption is expanding in innovative automotive use cases, such as AI-based Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) and even Autonomous Driving. PCIe technology provides the high bandwidth, reliable connectivity, and vast technology ecosystem needed to support the automotive applications of the future.
In this presentation, attendees will learn how PCIe technology is impacting the in-vehicle connectivity ecosystem. The session will also cover the automotive applications currently employing PCIe technology and the role of PCIe 6.0 technology in shaping future automotive system designs.
