Communication is the essence of modern life; not only because of the always-on availability of people through their smart phones, but also because of the vast amount of networked computing power, which smoothes our daily lives in the background. What works on a large scale, can be broken down into small elements – units like a car or an office for example – that in themselves contain functioning communication networks. All those different networks use specific technologies, which thus represent an essential part of the infrastructure, without which we would not be where we are today.
This interactive 45-minutes session discusses the role of open communication technology standards for these networks in particular and for innovation and progress in general. As the main background of the lecturer is in the car industry, a slight bias in respect to communication technologies used in cars can be expected. However, the intention is to lead a generalized discussion.
