Ken Schmahl is a senior member of the Achronix Semiconductor systems engineering group, wrestling with high speed interfaces including DDR4, GDDR6, PCIe5 and 4x100Gbps Ethernet. He is also responsible for characterization of Achronix's newest FPGA, the Speedster7t. Holding a BSEE from California Polytechnic University, Mr. Schmahl has a professional engineer license (P.E.), both professional and amateur extra radio licenses, is a senior member of IEEE, and has been awarded two patents. His career has spanned numerous companies where he has held increasing responsibility in leadership positions, including Sun Microsystems, Lucent, Juniper Networks, Broadcom, and Flex International as well as several startups. He has expertise in multiple areas of development such as board level design from micro-power embedded systems to 500W server-class processors; signal integrity designs up to 56Gbps; FPGA and ASIC design and verification; hardware/software co-design/development; and post-silicon chip characterization and debug. His interests include music, hiking, and volunteer activities. He is the chairman of the board of directors at a silicon valley not-for-profit organization, Schmahl Science Workshops, focused on promoting and evangelizing science to kids through 12th grade, in classrooms, after school, summer programs, and in mentored original research experiences.
